12 Years a Slave or American Hustle? American Hustle ternyata semakin memuluskan jalannya untuk menjadi unggulan terkuat di ajang Academy Awards mendatang setelah film yang diarahkan oleh David O. Russell tersebut berhasil memenangkan tiga penghargaan dari tujuh nominasi di ajang The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actress – Comedy or Musical untuk Amy Adams dan Best Supporting Actress untuk Jennifer Lawrence. Nasib tidak terlalu baik justru dialami oleh 12 Years a Slave. Dari tujuh nominasi yang diraih, film arahan Steve McQueen tersebut hanya mampu memenangkan satu penghargaan, Best Motion Picture – Drama. Para pemenang lain dalam ajang penghargaan yang dibawakan oleh duet Tina Fey dan Amy Poehler tersebut adalah Alfonso Cuarón (Best Director), Matthew McConaughey (Best Actor – Drama), Leonardo DiCaprio (Best Actor – Comedy or Musical), Cate Blanchett (Best Actress – Drama) dan Jared Leto (Best Supporting Actor).
