Tidak banyak kejutan yang terjadi pada acara puncak penghargaan The 93^rd Annual Academy Awards – yang awalnya direncanakan digelar pada Februari 2021 namun diundur hingga 26 April 2021 karena masih berlangsungnya masa pandemi COVID-19. Nomadland berhasil menjadi film dengan raihan kemenangan terbanyak. Film arahan Chloé Zhao tersebut memenangkan tiga kategori – Best Picture, Best Achievement in Directing untuk Zhao, serta Best Actress in a Leading Role untuk penampilan Frances McDormand. Mank (David Fincher, 2020), yang menjadi film dengan raihan nominasi terbanyak di The 93^rd Annual Academy Awards dengan sepuluh nominasi, hanya mampu memenangkan dua kategori – Best Cinematography dan Best Production Design. Setidaknya, Mank telah berhasil melampaui pencapaian film Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) yang menjadi inspirasi bagi ceritanya dan hanya mampu memenangkan kategori Best Original Screenplay di ajang The 14^th Annual Academy Awards.

Pemenang-pemenang lain di kategori akting adalah Anthony Hopkins – yang menumbangkan banyak prediksi yang memenangkan Chadwick Boseman – yang meraih Best Actor in a Leading Role untuk perannya di The Father (Florian Zeller, 2020), Daniel Kaluuya yang memenangkan kategori Best Actor in a Supporting Role untuk perannya di Judas and the Black Messiah (Shaka King, 2021), serta aktris kawakan asal Korea Selatan, Youn Yuh-jung, yang memenangkan kategori Best Actress in a Supporting Role untuk perannya dalam film Minari (Lee Isaac Chung, 2020). Yang justru mencuri perhatian dalam pagelaran kali ini adalah pemilihan pengumuman Best Picture yang dilangsungkan sebelum pengumuman pemenang Best Actress in a Leading Role serta Best Actor in a Leading Role. Menghasilkan kesan anti-klimaks bagi seluruh pelaksanaan acara.
